Hans and His Many Wives

For many Latter-day Saints, polygamy is a tough doctrine to understand.  Though the practice of polygamy was officially discontinued by the LDS Church in 1890, it is part of our family ancestry.

In Hans Carlston's case, he married 11 women over his life time.  Most of the women were widows or older and he married them to take care of them, not to have children with. He always said the number of wives he had a family with was 3.  You'll note that Hans' last recorded marriage was to Antoinette Hanna Hansen on 12 Sep 1870.
